In Our Wealth

So much, so, so much

We live in an age of abundance.

Pharaohs and Emperors would awe at our choices;

Our stores are filled with things better than gold.

We are enthralled by the glamour of possessions’ glitter.

Our tongues drive our will, not need.

So much so, that we so oft neglect the basics.

The basics of respect for the earth,

And caring for our family and friends,

And sharing our fruits with those in need,

With those who live in an age of less.

Still so many struggle to even eat,

and stay warm on a less than a warm day.

The earth is abused, our families forlorn,

And we share mostly with those who have.

In our wealth, we must go back to the basics,

And enjoy without exploitation or greed.

We must live up to this responsibility,

Or else our species will parish

Like the rest of our conquests.

To flourish, we must care.
