DESIRE

It seems the same old story,

passed down on through the ages;

We remain slaves to our desires,

despite the warnings of the sages.

Desire is the seed of pain,

attachment, covet, want;

Suffering will certainly follow,

Desire's karmic plot.

Want not, and one need not pay,

but want, and the cost is high;

Desire keeps us deep in debt,

as life passes by.

But to be human is to want,

all human's have desire;

Everyone is selfish,

on this earthy mire.

Even happiness, the final good,

 seems a fantasy we can't attain;

We are bound to suffer as we are human,

to be alive, means living pain.
